WETT Certified Inspection Ottawa

Required for insurance policies and real estate transactions, a comprehensive inspection of your wood-burning system by a WETT certified technician.

What Is a WETT Inspection?

WETT stands for Wood Energy Technology Transfer, a nationally recognized certification program for technicians who inspect and install wood-burning systems. A WETT inspection is a comprehensive assessment of your fireplace, chimney, wood stove, or pellet appliance conducted by a certified technician against established safety and building code standards.

WETT inspections are commonly required by insurance companies when you take out or renew a policy on a home with a wood-burning appliance, and by real estate transactions when buying or selling a home that has a fireplace, wood stove, or other solid fuel appliance.

What a WETT Inspection Covers

Our WETT certified technician performs a thorough visual and technical inspection of:

  • The chimney, exterior masonry condition, cap, crown, and flashing
  • The flue, liner condition, clearances, and termination
  • The firebox, condition of firebox walls, floor, and throat
  • The damper, operation and sealing
  • Appliance installation, clearances to combustibles, hearth extension, connections
  • Compliance with CSA B365 and local building code

A WETT inspection is not a chimney cleaning. It's a condition assessment and compliance review. If cleaning is needed, we'll advise you on that as part of the inspection findings.

When You Need a WETT Inspection

  • Insurance company requires documentation for a wood-burning appliance
  • Buying or selling a home with a fireplace or wood stove
  • Moving into a new home with an existing wood-burning appliance
  • Installing a new wood-burning appliance
  • You haven't had the system inspected in several years
  • After any chimney damage or significant masonry repair

WETT + Chimney Repair: A Natural Combination

Because we are both WETT certified inspectors and masonry specialists, we can identify issues during your inspection and provide a concrete plan, and accurate cost estimate, to resolve them. There's no need to coordinate between an inspector and a separate contractor. We do both, and we do both well.
